Applied Value Creation

Level 1 taught the language. Level 2 teaches the arithmetic. That difference is the difference between following a conversation in an investment committee and being able to end one.

What You Will Master

  • Return attribution: decompose any projected return into earnings, multiple and deleveraging, and know which one you actually control
  • Quality of earnings: build an adjustment file a buyer will accept, and tell an assertion apart from a piece of evidence
  • Capital structure: forecast covenants forward, publish breakeven EBITDA, and price an equity cure before you need one
  • Revenue, margin and cash: price realisation, operating leverage, the cash conversion cycle, and the value of a single day of DSO
  • The multiple: score yourself against the discount ladder and know what one turn is worth in dollars and in MOIC
  • Exit back: treat the value creation plan as a living document from day one rather than a document written nine months before market

One equation. One company. Five years.

Most private equity training is a tour of topics. This is one continuous problem, carried from the first module to the last.

Equity Value = Earnings × Multiple − Net Debt
One equation
Every module resolves back to it. An initiative that moves none of the three variables does not get funded from the value creation budget.
One company
You meet Corbin Industrial Services, our case company, in Module 1 at acquisition, and you are still working on it in Module 9, five years later, at exit.
Five years
The revenue in Module 4 produces the contribution margin in Module 5, which sets the covenant headroom in Module 3, which decides what you can afford in Module 8.

8 Reasons to Enrol in COPPE Level 2

Built for operators who are expected to produce the number, not just discuss it

1 The Arithmetic, Not the Anecdote

Level 2 is roughly a quarter opinion and three quarters calculation. You will produce numbers, not recognise them.

2 One Company, End to End

By Module 9 you will know a business the way you know a company you have actually sat on the board of.

3 A Certification That Means Something

Supervised, identity verified, instructor reviewed, and eighty percent to pass. Not everyone passes, and that is the point.

4 Forty Named Plays

The Gambit Index maps every play to the variable it moves, the module that sizes it, its timing, preconditions and conflicts.

5 PE Simulator Included

Three months of access. Practise the decisions where a wrong answer costs nothing, before you make them where it costs something.

6 No Prerequisite

Level 1 and Level 2 may be taken in either order. The complete Level 1 book is included if you start here.

7 Worked Answers, Not Just Scores

Three practice quizzes explain the reasoning behind every wrong option, so a mistake teaches you something.

8 Everything You Need Is a Calculator

No software to install, no template to buy. A calculator and something to write on. That is genuinely all.

Enrol now and become the person in the room who produces the number.

The Certification Is Real

50 questions, 75 minutes
Eighty percent to pass, which is forty of fifty.
Supervised
Delivered by ClassMarker with identity verification. Nothing to install.
Instructor reviewed
Every award is reviewed alongside your simulator evidence and capstone.
A named scope line
The certificate states exactly what was tested, so an employer can read what you demonstrated.

Who This Is For

Operating partners, portfolio company executives, and corporate development and finance professionals who are tired of being the person in the room who cannot produce the number.

Many operating partners arrive in the role from operations, from consulting, or from running a business, and were never formally taught discounting, IRR or the mechanics of the three statements. That is a gap in what they were taught, not in what they are capable of. Bonus 1, the Finance Refresher, exists for exactly that, and it is included.

Changing Your Mind

Full refund within 7 days of purchase, no questions asked, provided you have not taken any assessment.

Assessments include the Placement Diagnostic in the Start Here module, the three practice quizzes, and the final examination. Opening a lesson, watching a video or reading a bonus does not affect your refund. Only taking an assessment does.

After 7 days, the sale is final.

The reason for the assessment condition is straightforward. We would rather you attempt things and learn from them than treat a low score as a reason to leave, so the window closes at the point you start being assessed. If you are still deciding, read the Start Here lessons first and take the diagnostic afterwards.
