What is CVCA Level 1?
CVCA Level 1 is the first certification in the VCII Certified Value Creation Analyst programme. It teaches the analyst’s side of value creation: how to build the analysis that says whether a plan will work, connect every lever to earnings, cash and enterprise value, and present it in a form that survives being questioned.
It is self paced, costs USD 179 as one payment, needs no prerequisites, and ends with a final certification examination.
Every subsection, built the same way

Every lesson also comes with audio, a Visual Companion and a VideoCast.
An analysis is only useful if it survives being questioned.
Most plans are presented with confidence and tested by nobody. The analyst’s job is to say, before the money is spent, whether the plan will work, which levers carry it, and what evidence would change the answer.
A plan that looks right
Ranked by instinct, with an upside case that differs from the base case only in optimism. It reads well until the first question.
An analysis that can be questioned
Levers scored on effort, timing and confidence, scenarios that differ in assumptions, and an evidence summary that shows what would change your mind.
Four pieces of analysis a value creation team relies on
Each one ties a lever to earnings, cash and enterprise value, so the conversation is about evidence rather than opinion.
Value driver bridges
Trace each lever through the financial statements to earnings, cash and enterprise value.
Lever scoring
Rank initiatives on effort, timing and confidence rather than instinct.
Scenario comparison
Base, upside and downside cases that differ in their assumptions, not in their optimism.
Evidence summaries
Show what supports the conclusion, and what would change your mind.

Fifty subsections in all. Case work asks you to make the call before you see how it resolved, and each quarter closes with a summary and an at a glance review.

Rank the plan on evidence, not instinct
Five initiatives competing for the same budget. Select one, then change its effort, timing or confidence and watch the ranking move. This is the scoring discipline Level 1 teaches, in miniature.
Live ranking
Edit the selected initiative
Illustrative figures: impact is run rate EBITDA in millions of US dollars. Score = impact × confidence × quarters of run rate inside the hold, divided by twelve quarters × effort. A teaching device, not a valuation.
The VCII Value Creation Sandbox
Enrolment includes the VCII Value Creation Sandbox, a gamified simulator. You choose one of five deals, then run the mandate across twelve quarters with a budget that never stretches far enough, sequencing five operating levers that each land at a different speed.
At exit a buyer prices what you built, and the value bridge splits the gain into EBITDA growth, multiple change and debt paydown. Reading teaches the vocabulary. Running a plan teaches the trade.
Built for people who are asked whether the plan will work
No prerequisites, though comfort with a P&L helps. You need to want your numbers to hold up when someone pushes on them.
Built for
- Analysts and associates in private equity, or preparing to join it
- Corporate development, FP&A and finance professionals who model plans for a board
- Consultants who build the business case behind value creation work
- Early career professionals who want a rigorous first credential in value creation
- Holders of a CFA, CPA or MBA who want the value creation layer those credentials do not cover
Not the right purchase if
- You want live classes, a cohort or one-to-one tuition. The course is self paced and asynchronous.
- Your seat is running the plan inside the company rather than analysing it. COPPE Level 1 is the better fit.
- You need the full quantitative apparatus with a supervised examination now. Start with Level 2.
- You want spreadsheet shortcuts. This course teaches the reasoning the spreadsheet has to carry.
Which seat are you training for?
Both are Level 1 certifications and share the same simulator. They train different seats at the same table. Choose the one that matches the job you do, or the job you want next.
- Your job
- Build the analysis that says whether the plan will work.
- The question it answers

- Level 3
- Intervention: an operating partner appointed to a company already off thesis.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a finance or private equity background?
No. There are no prerequisites. Comfort with a P&L helps, and a pre-assessment shows you where you stand before Lesson 1.
How long does CVCA Level 1 take?
It is self paced, with an optional drip schedule you can turn off. Access runs for twelve months.
Are there live sessions or a cohort?
No. The course is asynchronous throughout. You start when you enrol and work through it in your own time.
How is CVCA different from the CFA?
The CFA is about investment analysis. CVCA is about the analysis behind creating value inside a company once it is owned: which levers, how much, how soon and how sure. The two are complementary.
Should I choose CVCA or COPPE?
Choose CVCA if your seat is the analysis that tests a plan. Choose COPPE if your seat is running the plan inside the company. Both are Level 1 certifications and include the same simulator.
Should I take Level 1 or Level 2 first?
Either order works. Both are prerequisites for CVCA Level 3.
How does the refund work?
Full refund within seven days of purchase while the course is unused. Starting any assessment, including the pre-assessment, ends the refund window.
